The ultimate serve for the indulgent sipper, the Sipspresso Martini is the delicious ginny alternative to a classic Espresso Martini.
We turned to our friends at Pact Coffee (the creators of the Fruit & Nut Espresso we used to craft our delicious Sipspresso Coffee Gin) for instructions on how to make the perfect espresso, no matter what coffee equipment you have at home.
SIPSPRESSO MARTINI RECIPE
- 40ml Sipsmith Sipspresso Coffee Gin
- 25ml espresso (we recommend Pact Coffee Fruit & Nut Espresso)
- 20ml Kahlúa
- 10ml sugar syrup
- Coffee beans, to garnish (optional)
- Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder to garnish (optional)
You’ll need a cocktail shaker for this one, though a jam jar or airtight container will do the trick if you don’t have a shaker at home. Simply add the gin, espresso, Kahlúa and sugar syrup in an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously until the shaker is almost too cold to touch, before straining into a chilled Martini glass. Garnish with coffee beans and a dusting of chocolate shavings to garnish.
Or, purchase a Sipspresso Martini Gift Set, featuring a bottle of gin, Pact Coffee, measuring jigger and swan stencil – for a bar-quality serve at home. Read on to find out how to make the perfect espresso at home with a stovepot, Mokapot or AeroPress.
HOW TO MAKE ESPRESSO WITH A STOVETOP
You’ll need:
- Medium-fine ground Pact Coffee (enough to fill the basket)
- Stovetop / Mokapot
- Kettle
- Tea towel
- Step 1. Boil your kettle and leave it to rest for a minute.
- Step 2. Fill the bottom chamber of your stovetop, to just below the valve, with your off-the-boil water.
TOP TIP: Using hot water means the brewing process starts immediately – otherwise, while the water is heating, the hot metal of the stovetop causes the flavour of the coffee to escape as vapour.

- Step 3. Fill your stovetop’s coffee chamber with medium-fine ground Pact Coffee.
- Step 4. Level off the coffee, making sure you don’t ‘tamp’ it down.
- Step 5. Drop the coffee chamber back into the stovetop.
- Step 6. Using a tea towel to protect your hands, screw the top and bottom of the stovetop back together.
- Step 7. Put the stovetop on the hob, on a high heat.
- Step 8. Lift the lid so you can check the spout. When coffee starts bubbling out, turn your hob off. The residual pressure will push enough water through to brew the coffee perfectly.
- Step 9. You should have a delicious espresso-like drink ready to make your Sipspresso Martini – find the recipe above!
HOW TO MAKE ESPRESSO WITH AN AEROPRESS
Note, this method deviates from the standard Pact Coffee AeroPress method in that it is designed to produce an espresso-like drink rather than a long black coffee.
- 16g medium-fine ground Pact Coffee
- AeroPress
- AeroPress scoop
- AeroPress paddle
- AeroPress filter
- Timer
- Kettle
- A mug or jug
- Step 1. Push the plunger out of the AeroPress chamber.
- Step 2. Boil your kettle and leave it to rest for a minute.
- Step 3. Put the filter paper in the filter cap.
- Step 4. Twist filter cap onto AeroPress chamber.
- Step 5. Stand chamber on sturdy mug and put 1 rounded scoop or 16g of medium-fine ground Pact Fruit & Nut Espresso coffee in the chamber.
- Step 6. Shake to level coffee.
- Step 7. Add water up to Level 1 on the chamber and stir using the AeroPress paddle for 10 seconds.
- Step 8. Insert plunger and press gently, pausing when you feel resistance, until the plunger reaches grounds.
- Step 9. You should have a delicious espresso-like drink ready to make your Sipspresso Martini – find the recipe above!
